My grandfather has a 1970something Rubber Bumper MGB that has been sitting in his backyard forever.

Kinja'd!!!

Take away the unreliability of the Lucas electrics and add a Chevrolet 3.8 V6 using !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and you get a super unique and quick(er) MGB that will actually start for cheap!

I have no issues with a GM 60 degree V6 in a B. But..

I think an Ecotec 4 would be a much easier swap.

My grandfather was working on the 3.8 swap right up until he passed away. Biggest issue he had was that he didn't want to cut a hole in the hood for an air cleaner, so he had to get this really weird intake manifold and used heating duct for intake plumbing. He was famous for not giving even a single shit how something like that looked as long as it worked.

LOL I want a car that is unique but can actually be sporty! The MGB fits the unique and sporty, just it can't get out of its own way haha! A V6 would solve that problem!

The early ones go just fine, but the late rubber bumper cars like that one...yeah, they're almost dangerously slow. The swap really wasn't too bad to do. His was a real basket case to start with, but the actual mechanical stuff wasn't awful. My concerns were always with how the stock rear end would fare, but he never seemed too worried about it.

I shouldn't have said easier.

If you've ever worked on a Midget or a B it'd be apparent. There isn't a lot of room to work.

I still cannot believe they stuffed the Rover V8 in the B-GT.

Huh, I might actually look into this! Now to convince him to give me one for my birthday... (he also has a 1970 MGB and a 1972 MGB, both with the chrome bumpers!) I'm sure that he'd give me one!
